The Dairy Queen that closed down at the Columbia Center Mall is being replaced by a new location at Queensgate in Richland. The new location is being built by the same owners of the mall location which they closed when the lease ran up according to news reports. They decided to build a new location in one of the new growth areas of the Tri-Cities and Queensgate was picked.

Construction has already started the new location at 3250 Duportail near the intersection with Keene Road. The new Dairy Queen is said to open around December and hire between 40 and 55 employees.
