The incident, reported by Kennewick police Wednesday, calls attention to what medical professionals and law enforcement officers say is the returning popularity of a drug that was once the drug of choice in the 1960's.

If you were alive during or remember the 60's, LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) was the experimental drug used by some social activists and thousands of counter-culture people seeking to 'expand' their minds.

The drug faded considerably in the coming decades, replaced by heroin, meth and coke. But in the last few years, both in the U.S. and abroad, LSD is again becoming a drug of choice, especially among young people under the age of 25.

The drug originates from an acid that is found in fungus that grows on rye and other grains. It's best known for it's street name Acid.

Kennewick police received a 911 call about an unnamed young man who was "tearing up" a residence. After finally being restrained, he was taken to the hospital for treatment. As seen in the photo, it took four officers to help "bring him down."

The effects of Acid generally last around 12 hours for the average person. They more often than not produce terrifying, hallucinogenic, psychotic visions and behavior by the subject, which police say is what appeared to happen to this man. If left untreated, Acid users sometimes end up dying. Not necessarily from the drug, but from behaviors caused by the psychotic effects of the drug.
