The Oregon State Patrol says a medical condition that occurred to a driver behind the wheel may have led to a rollover accident near Elgin.

Troopers said 49-year-old Tom Swiderski of Wendell, Idaho, was westbound on Highway 82 near Elgin Tuesday afternoon when his 2008 Pontiac crossed the highway, sped up onto the hillside, hitting two large rocks.  The car then rolled back down onto the shoulder, coming to a rest on it's top.   Fortunately Swiderski was wearing his seatbelt, and he was removed from the vehicle by rescue workers from the Elgin Rural Fire Protection District.

He was taken to Grande Ronde Memorial Hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.  Officials say Swiderski might not have survived the crash if he hadn't been wearing his seatbelt.   The investigation continues.
