Kennewick fire crews were dispatched Wednesday morning to a home at 1903 South Fruitland near 19th after getting a call from a City Meter reader.

The city worker noticed smoke and flames around the back of the home, and called 911. They, and police who arrived, woke up the homeowner who was sleeping. The elderly woman escaped any harm, and crews were able to knock down the fire and prevent extensive damage.

Kudos to the city worker for acting quickly as well as police!
