In many countries, this would have been considered an act of war, and now the US Customs and Border Patrol are trying to figure out what to do about the column of Mexican military personell who crossed over the border near Laredo Texas yesterday.

KGNS-TV in Laredo reported that three Mexican military vehicles crossed the border, in a clear violation of international law.  The Mexican government claims they were being dispatched to Nuevo Laredo, just across the border, and had gotten lost.  But US officials wonder why they would have tried to cross into the US at a clearly marked, and heavily guarded border crossing.  The TV station noted that numerous calls by citizens were made to the CBP (Customs and Border Patrol) over the incident, for allowing the troops to get very close to the inspection stations at the crossing.  The TV station also noted the report of the incursion came not from the CBP but from another agency.  Officials are concerned because drug cartels are known for disguising themselves as Mexican military troops and police in order to infiltrate areas, as well as ambush potential rivals and Mexican soldiers and police.  No official comment yet from the White House.
