Oregon State Police are reporting a tragic motorcycle crash that killed a driver and rider Friday afternoon occurred after the Harley Davidson overturned on the shoulder.

Just after 4:30pm on State Route 13, a group of riders were approaching the Joseph Canyon Viewpoint in Wallowa County OR, about 40 miles southeast of Walla Walla.

As one of the lead cycles slowed to turn into the viewpoint area, a 2013 Harley Davidson Tri-Glide driven by Galen Joseph Rottinghaus, 79, of Oak Harbor WA, attempted to steer around the other cycle. However, he lost control on the shoulder and rolled the three-wheeled cycle.

He suffered injuries that he would later die from at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in nearby Lewiston, Idaho. His passenger, 77-year-old Patricia Ann Evans of El Cajon CA, was pronounced dead at the scene.
