Oregon State Patrol officials are still investigating, along with the county coroner and others, why a man was lying alongside Interstate 84 in Oregon. He was said to be in significant medical distress, and later died.

Around 9pm Tuesday night, 911 calls alerted troopers to a man lying on the shoulder just East of Biggs Junction, about an hour west of Tri-Cities.  An Oregon State Trooper and Sherman County Deputy began to perform CPR on 48-year-old Thomas L. Kelsey, of Deer Park, WA.  When found, he was on his stomach, and the officers said he was in severe distress, but didn't speculate otherwise about his condition.

The officers performed CPR for nearly 30 minutes before medical personnel arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials are now trying to figure out why he was there, and what led to his fatal medical episode.
