The Richland Bomb Squad had to be called in, and authorities had to shut down a hazardous waste disposal event Saturday, after a person dropped off chemicals that could have created a deadly explosion.

Benton County Sheriff's cordoned off an area on Wiser Parkway from Badger to Cottonwood Drive until the bomb squad could detonate the chemicals on scene.

The unknown woman dropped of a container holding about 20 grams of picric acid, which if it crystallizes, can become very unstable and explosive.

It's not known where she may have obtained it, or if she knew how dangerous it was. She was asked to wait while officials investigated, but she apparently drove off. The investigation continues.
