A brand new fast charge station for electric cars opened today at 11 am in Kennewick on West Hilderbrand Boulevard off of Highway 395.

The new Southridge station is the first of 9 local fast charging station expected to open soon in the Tricities, according to reports.

These new stations will make it a lot easier for commuters trying to cross the state in their electric cars.

The charging station was made possible by a $405,000 grant from the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Transportation Alliance.

The other eight stations will be built in Ellensburg in May; a Yakima station in June; Pasco, Connell and Cle Elum stations in July; and Prosser and Richland stations by September.

There was already a supercharger station just for Tesla owners on 2811 W. 10th Ave in Kennewick. Soon there will be more options.

A full charge with the fast charging stations takes about 20-30 minutes depending on the vehicle.
