I stopped at McNary Dam on Saturday to see the fish ladder and it was the best fish viewing experience I've ever had.
We mostly saw just three types of fish, but there are posters helping you identify the dozen-plus fish that could potentially swim past the viewing windows.
We left after 20 minutes but all the kids there could have stayed much, much longer.

My favorite part of McNary Dam is there's a disc golf course there, as well as beautiful picnic areas overlooking the dam.

I've not been in the salmon "interpretive center" open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. but it looks fantastic. I have been in the power house and it's fascinating if you understand the engineering, but no so much for kids who don't know what they're looking at.

I don't know when the fish run started, or when it ends, but the viewing is good now so hurry down!

There's a lot of fun stuff to see and do in Hermiston and Umatilla while you're there!
