Official – Seahawk’s Coleman Arrested For Hit-And-Run Accident

Derrick Coleman, who wears #40 and plays fullback for the Seattle Seahawks, is under investigation for vehicular assault and felony hit-and-run, say Seattle police.

Coleman was arrested early Thursday, and is in the King County jail. Bail was denied, but the judge declined to say why. Bellevue police say a Friday afternoon press conference has been scheduled, but no specifics about the incident have been released.

According to sources, including some inside the Seahawks, Coleman has been suspended from the team indefinitely pending the investigation.

Coleman has been viewed as a role model and inspirational figure in the Seattle community, especially since he is legally deaf.

NBC Sports online reports the crash was a rollover, that left the other driver with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Coleman's attorney says a recent concussion he sustained, as well as his deafness, might have led police to initially believe he was intoxicated. Whether he was walking or running away from the crash, NBC Sports says he was found two blocks from the accident.  Although not confirmed, there are reports Coleman's hearing aids were not performing correctly at the time of the wreck, due to failing batteries.

A toxicology test has been ordered, and Coleman told police he was not under the influence of any substances at the time of the accident.
