Move over Eastern Washington, now there's an Oregon county that wants to "secede" and join the state of Idaho.

According to numerous reports including Oregon Live, Malheur County wants to find a way to leave the state of Oregon, and become part of Idaho, largely because politically the county finds itself at odds with what they see as an ever left-leaning Beaver state.

Malheur is adjacent to the Idaho border, and features lots of farming and agricultural business. It's an idea that's not that new. In 1969 writer Norman Mailer ran for the Mayor of New York (and lost miserably) and promised to split the city off from the rest of the state. In 2009, you may recall Rick Perry, former Governor of Texas, say he wouldn't mind if the state broke away on it's own.

For years, several attempts have actually been made in the Washington state legislature to break the state in half (down the Cascades) over East Side frustration at being "forced" into controversial laws due to the population advantage of the West.

Now, even Idaho businessmen and residents agree Malheur County is more like Idaho, than Oregon. Idaho's Capitol Press says Malheur farmers have even held forums and meetings about the matter, and approached Idaho legislators.  Rep. Gayle Batt, of nearby Wilder, Idaho, says they'd welcome them in a "heartbeat" due to their agricultural clout and political leanings.

While no official word has come from Oregon's government, an Oregon State University researcher, Bill Buhrig, says it's incredibly complex. He farms in Malheur County and firmly believes it would never happen, but "it's fun to talk about."

Well,  never say never, we always say.  Same for the Eastern-Western Washington split.
