Deschutes County, OR officials say the woman suffered from a "psychological malady," didn't tell anyone about her dead sister.

Officials in the tiny Oregon town of LaPine (population 1,653) are trying to figure out why a woman knew her sister was dead at home for five months, but didn't tell officials.

According to sources, the woman went to the deceased sister's home this week to "help her" but fell on the steps. She noticed a 'strange smell' coming from inside the home (yikes!) and called the Deschutes County Sheriff.

Inside, they found the woman, who's identity has not yet been released, dead. According to the county coroner, they estimate she died likely sometime in December, and had been there for five months. No word was given on the condition of the body, but considering the smell reached the outside, it's likely she was very "ripe."

Deschutes County Sheriff John Bocciolatt would only say the living sister suffered some sort of mental breakdown. She told officials she knew her sister died, but became depressed and started drinking heavily.

An autopsy scheduled for this week will hopefully determine the cause of death. LaPine is considered part of the metropolitan area of Bend, just about dead center in Oregon, about 141 miles north of the California border.
