Based upon the wording of an email sent by the attorney representing the widow and daughters of Antonio Zambrano-Montes, the lawyer essentially called the governor 'gutless.'

Thursday,  Gov. Inslee refused attorney George Trejo Jr's request to appoint a special prosecutor to oversee the investigation into the fatal shooting of Antonio Zambrano-Montes February 10th in Pasco.

According to various sources,  Inslee's General Council Nicholas Brown told Trejo Jr. that nothing had changed since Inslee told Felix Vargas last month he would not interfere.  Vargas, representing a community group he heads up, had asked for the special oversight, saying he felt Franklin County prosecutor Sean Sant was too closely tied to local law enforcement.

Vargas politely threw barbs at the Pasco police department and the investigation, hinting that officers would be inclined to 'protect' each other such a situation.  Trejo Jr. said in an email Inslee lacks the "intestinal fortitude" to take the action necessary. He compared this case to the recent South Carolina shooting of Walter Scott, where the officer was later charged with murder.

Trejo Jr. also threw barbs at Inslee when the governor previously worked as an attorney in Yakima.  Trejo Jr. claimed Inslee made a lot of money representing people in injury and wrongful death cases that "involved Hispanic people."
