Another reason to drive carefully in rainy conditions!

Oregon State Police were busy Memorial Day with five accidents on I-84 near Rooster Rock State Park on I-84, about 25-30 miles West of Portland Monday. Heavy rain with standing water on the roadway created slippery conditions that led to the crashes.

Authorities also caution motorists to use care especially early in heavy rainstorms. Oil and rubber building up on roads is washed away by hard rain, creating a slippery surface.  You've probably seen the whitish-detergent or rainbow colored water flowing down a highway or street during a storm -- that's the rubber and oil.

Fortunately, only three people were injured in the accidents that occurred during a 90-minute period starting around 4 p.m. Monday.
