An overflow crowd will be expected this weekend when the Rolling Thunder Racing semis return to Hermiston at the newly-refurbished Hermiston Super Oval!

The group of racers, sanctioned through Gibbson Racing, are a diverse group ranging in age from 24 to mid 50s -- and including a lady driver. Last season, nine of the Peterbilts, Kenworths, Macks and Internationals raced around the 3/8 mile course just north of Hermiston. Smoking tires and rubbing bumpers thrilled the crowd.

The trucks are equipped with roll-cages inside and externally -- just like a stock car. The engines are standard diesels which have been "tricked" mechanically for optimum performance, with matching transmissions and gears. Rolling Thunder is the only U.S.-based group of racing semis. They appear at various tracks around the Pacific Northwest. Owners are making efforts to expand the group further up and down the West Coast. Enjoy these videos of the trophy dash action.

Time trials start at 6 p.m. Saturday with racing at 7. Also on the program are the exciting Hornets and Bomber-class cars. For tickets and details, just visit Hermiston Super Oval on Facebook.
