In a move that will raise eyebrows and set off a ripple effect in the NFL, former Brady backup Jimmy Garoppolo has signed the biggest contract in NFL history, regardless of position.

The 49'rs announced the 5-year $137.5 million dollar deal heading into the weekend. Garoppolo has never lost an NFL start, he was also 5-0 for the Niners after being traded from New England.

San Francisco GM John Lynch indicated to the NFL Network and other sources the team was not about to let him get away.

The deal will pay him $27.5 million annually, $500K more than Detroit's Matthew Stafford. The next three biggest deals are the Raider's Derek Carr at $25 million, the Colt's Andrew Luck at $24 mil, and the Raven's Joe Flacco, who pulls in $22.1 million each season.
