Just before 1:30 pm Sunday, fire crews responded to a blaze at the playground in the Santiago Country View Estates Mobile and Manufactured Home park on Steptoe in Kennewick,  off Gage Blvd.

Once the fires was out, according to Kennewick Police Officer Joshua Riley,  authorities were able to determine the fire had been set,  and it's being investigated as Arson.

Several witnesses, including one arriving home at the time of the blaze, reported seeing a young juvenile boy fleeing the area on a bike.   He was described by witnesses as "being in a hurry."  Some witnesses said the boy was 10-years old.

Due to extreme heat, the wood and plastic components of the structure, it went up quickly.   A huge plume of black smoke was also seen as some tires that were used for playground implements were also set on fire.

The damage to the structure is said to exceed $10,000.   Police are asking for anyone with leads or information to call Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers at (509)-586-TIPS (8467).    Since it's being investigated as an Arson, Crime Stoppers is now involved.

Police didn't say if any evidence of any accelerants (gas, fuel) were used in starting the blaze.
