I know parents who let their teens drink at dinner with them to teach them how to consume alcohol responsibly. I know many more parents shocked and disturbed by the idea. What do you think?

Pro: if you teach young people how alcohol affects them in a safe, controlled environment they'll drink more responsibly when they're out of the house. A glass of wine with dinner or a beer on the porch helps them experience how different types and quantities of alcohol influence their judgment and motor skills.

Con: The teen brain is still developing and alcohol is very damaging to it. Also, drinking is illegal until age 21, doesn't this encourage under-age drinking at college? Teens have poor judgment anyway, if you convince them they "know their limits" you're just inviting them to exercise poor judgment with driving, partying, etc. (that's why the drinking age was raised from 18 to 21)
