The Sunnyside City Council is disagreeing over the new Parks & Rec. Department director they hired. Apparently he was laid off from a previous job and a lawsuit followed and some are concerned about that. Others are upset he's not Hispanic and/or doesn't speak Spanish. Should that matter?

Citizens should be able to communicate their needs and wishes to the director, which they can't do if he doesn't understand Spanish.

That's a valid point, but this is America and people should expect to communicate with government leaders in English. And shouldn't job openings be filled by people with the most experience? He can hire folks to cater to the Hispanic cultural needs and desires.

I think both sides have a point. What do YOU think?
