At least he tried to be clever!

A 50-year-old man is in custody after allegedly breaking into a pair of businesses in Spokane Valley early Monday.

Curtis Burgett was chased and apprehended by Spokane County Sheriff's deputies after a business owner called in a report of a break-in on East Sharp Ave. in the Spokane Valley.  Authorities arrived to find Burgett driving a forklift.  He reportedly hit the building and damaged a fence.

Burgett jumped the fence into an adjacent business, but ran when confronted.  He was chased towards the Spokane railway yard, and was on a flatbed car when a K-9 dog brought him down.   He was arrested without incident.

Burgett told authorities he worked for a security company and he was testing the security of the business he allegedly broke into!   He claimed they conducted tests like that on a regular basis, but it didn't keep him from being charged with felony 2nd. degree burglary!
