A followup on today's earlier story about the showdown between the Obama Administration and Texas Governor Rick Perry.  The US Supreme Court has  turned down a request to delay the Texas execution of a convicted killer.

The court refused to delay the execution of  38 year old Humberto Leal, who will be lethally injected at 6pm for the 1994 rape and murder of a 16 year old San Antonio girl.  The White House had sought to block the execution on the grounds that it would hinder US-Mexican relations, and the claim that foreign nationals are entitled to seek legal help from their native country if accused of a capital crime--despite the fact that no such law exists on the books in the US.  Previous attempts to pass such a protection law by Congress have failed twice.  Pending any last second repreives, Leal will die tonight in Texas.
