If you were suspicious about where all the support, and money, for Initiative 594 is coming from,  you are probably right.  The noted YouTube page Laughing at Liberals captured some very interesting information about the people helping push I-594.

A lawsuit accusing Washington State Potato Commission Executive Director Chris Voigt of ethics violations has been settled "to the satisfaction of Mr Didier," said the attorney for the 4th. District Congressional candidate.

A judge in Spokane has agreed to hear 4th District candidate Clint Didier's motion against Washington State Potato Commission Executive Director Chris Voigt.

It's rather ironic that virtually the same time the Washington State Executive Ethics Commission has fined the Executive Director of the State's Powerful Potato board,  the State Farm Bureau announced it's endorsing Dan Newhouse for Congress.

The Washington State Executive Ethics board says there's "reasonable cause" behind allegations that the Grant County Chairman of the Dan Newhouse campaign, who is also the Executive Director of the Washington State Potato Commission,  committed ethics violations this summer.   The violations stem from using state potato commission resources to help the campaign.  And there's more. While some ballots are still being tabulated it appears the Benton County Criminal Justice tax has passed.    But it could potentially face a hurdle.

The 4th Congressional District race was w-i-d-e open, and as we head towards November, there's still a lot to come into play.

In 2008, Washington adopted a new, top-two primary system.   Unlike party lines in the past,  in the August primaries,  the top two vote getters move on to November - regardless of their party affiliation.   Never before have the two candidates in any state or Congressional race been on the same side - until now.

As often seen in what are called mid-term elections, voter turnout might not reach 40%.
