Although it is very special to win a state title in a track and field event,  many consider this weekend's Pasco Invitational Track Meet to actually be a bigger, even more prestigious event.

Since 1962, for 55 years, Edgar Brown Stadium has been the site of some of the most outstanding track performances on the entire West Coast.

Dozens of future state champions from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and even further have journeyed to Pasco, at least 105 high schools are expected to have competitors, from "B" schools through 4A and 5A from Oregon.

The events being at 9:30am with distance running, and continue through 7pm when the final relay races are run.  Each school is only allowed one entry per individual event, the top 45 overall make it into the preliminaries, a pretty stiff standard. In fact, several Pasco Invitational records for both boys and girls exceed state high school records in WA.

It's because of the caliber of athletes competing that often times, winning marks at Pasco exceed those in the State meets later this spring. The meet is so big, it's mentioned and featured in national prep track and field websites across the country.

Again, events begin at 9:30am at Edgar Brown Stadium in Pasco.
