As it turns out the driver and her passenger were 14-year-old girls who'd taken the car without permission.

Lots of accidents happen in the Columbia Basin every week, but this one grabbed headlines because of the way it happened.

October 15th,  on Hood St. just off Edison by KVEW 42 ABC TV,  witnesses said around 11am a blue sedan came racing Eastbound on Hood, towards the intersection with Edison.   Hood intersects Edison right in front of the TV Station, across the street from Kamiakin High School.

The car, traveling at a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate the corner.  It drifted off the road, then, still speeding, actually rode up the guidewire for a telephone pole! It then rolled over, fell to the ground, coming to a stop with the front of the car resting against the pole!

Witnesses in our Newstalk 870 video and authorities said the passengers were two 14-year-old girls who were joyriding in a car they had taken from one of their parents without permission.  Fortunately, they were not seriously hurt.   To this day it is still not known if they faced charges for their joyride, although it's almost certain they did.
