Although the move will shock Am's fans, it came as a necessity, since the team picked up another overage, or 20-year-old player.

Brian Williams, who became a crowd favorite for his speed, effort and jackrabbit-like skills on the ice, was traded to the Regina Pats Wednesday, leaving the Americans with their league limit of three overage players. MacKenzie Stewart was recently acquired by the team by way of the Calgary Hitmen, leaving the Ams with one too many overage players.

According to information released by the team Wednesday afternoon via GM and Governor Bob Tory:

“With four 20-year-olds, this is an opportunity for Brian to stay in the league,” Tory stated. “We would like to thank him for his time with our organization and wish him nothing but the best going forward.”

Williams, a native of Claremont, Calif., was an eighth round pick (173rd overall) by the Americans in the 2010 Bantam Draft. He is playing his fifth season in the WHL, recording 88 goals and 89 assists in 290 career WHL games. Williams will finish his Tri-City career in the all-time record books. He ranks 9th in games played, tied for 17th in goals, 23rd in points (177) and tied for 28th in assists.
