The Tri-City Americans have made some big trades in the last 36 hours.  On the heels of Wil Tomchuk going to Prince George,  Now Conner Rankin is headed to Calgary, and Marcus Messier to Spokane.

Rankin, a 19-year-old forward, was traded for 17-year old defenseman Josh Thrower.    Friday, the Americans announced 19-yaer-old forward Marcus Messier will be heading to Spokane, with 19-year-old forward Jackson Playfair coming to the Americans.

Playfair, in his 2nd full WHL season, is the older 6' 1" 215 lb. brother of Americans prospect Austyn Playfair, who was signed in August.  They are both sons of Phoenix Coyotes Assistant Coach Jim Playfair.

Playfair has accumulated 89 games, with six goals, 15 points and 124 penalty minutes.  General Manager Bob Tory said "Jackson is a big power forward who will add size and depth to our line-up."

Messier departs Tri-Cities with Americans career totals of 195 games, 21 goals, 56 points and 57 penalty minutes.  He also has 2 goals in 7 career post-season games.

Playfair, pictured below, and Thrower are expected to be in the lineup when the Americans take on Everett in a home-and-home series this weekend.  Saturday's game will be at Toyota Center, game time 7:05pm with 6:50 pregame on Newstalk 870.
