Unlike many of the deaths reported in WA and Oregon prisons, no specifics were released about this one.

Umatilla Prison officials at the Two Rivers Correctional Institute said Sunday 29-year-old Rigoberto Corono-Avila was pronounced dead 6:32am Sunday after having been transported off-site to a hospital Saturday afternoon.

Officials said he was taken to an area hospital for "medical care" but later pronounced dead the following morning. However, no information was released about why he was there.

However, based upon his crimes, some sources are saying he might have been the victim of an assault. No verification was possible at this time. According to a prison statement:

"Corono-Avila entered DOC custody on December 9, 2010, on one count of sex abuse in the first degree, one count of felony assault in the fourth degree, and one count of sex abuse in the second degree out of Marion County. His earliest release date was January 3, 2017."

The investigation continues.
