While numerous political experts, critics and conservatives are asking why it took so long to "get rid" of Attorney General Eric Holder,   our state AG was praising him.

WA AG Bob Ferguson released a statement late Thursday that offered these assessments of Holder's controversial career:

“Civil rights, marriage equality, sentencing reform and crime prevention are but a few of the issues on which we have made progress in our country due to the leadership of U.S. Attorney Eric Holder.

“I appreciate Holder’s leadership on the decision that the federal government won’t attempt to preempt Washington and Colorado as our states implement a highly regulated legalized market for marijuana.

“This reflects a balanced approach by the federal government that respects the states’ interests in implementing these laws."

Holder leaves this country a better place.”

In fairness, the ONE area Holder could be commended for is not meddling in state's rights when it came to WA and CO legalizing marijuana.  Whether we agree on the subject of pot, the overriding issue was the rights of states to determine issues for themselves.   Most experts agree, however,  Holder's motivation was NOT spurred by his desire for the states to think for themselves - moreover,  it was just because it would have opened up a whole can of legal "worms,"  which the Justice Department didn't want to deal with.

With such glorious praise, we can only surmise that Ferguson was ok with Holder's controversial decision in 2012 to permit the use of federal funds to build a soccer field, to be used for recreational purposes by prisoners at Gitmo.  True Story!
