It will be interesting to see how far this bill goes, especially against the powerful NFL.

Washington Senator Maria Cantwell has introduced a bill that would strip the NFL of it's tax-exempt status unless they force the Washington Redskins to change their name!   No, it's not an April Fools joke.

Senator Cantwell waded into the politically correct charged issue of the Washington Redskins name by introducing a bill that would strip the NFL of it's tax-exempt status.

The NFL is officially considered a not-for-profit entity, which does rankle some,  but Cantwell wants to change that.   Sounding very holier than thou she uttered the following statement while speaking to a Native American group recently:

“The NFL needs to join the rest of Americans in the 21st century, It is about right and wrong.”

She of course, is referring to the efforts by certain Native American and PC groups who want owner Dan Snyder to change the name of the historic Washington franchise because they believe the name Redskins  is insensitive.

We at Newstalk 870 find it ironic that while Cantwell and others can't seem to find a way to secure our border, curb government spending or leave gun owners alone - she sure can jump headfirst into politically correct issues when she wants to.    This is about the NFL, sports, and has nothing to do with the government.

Since when does D.C. think they can bully around a "private" business?  Oh that's right - they've already been doing it for years.

There's far more important things to concern with than this.
