According to officials, all four sections of the Walla Walla State Penitentiary are on lockdown after an early Monday morning fight broke out.

Around 8:30am, security broke up an altercation in the West Complex outdoor recreation area that involved about 60 inmates. Pepper spray was used to help break up the fights, and shots were fired into the air by guards.

Several inmates required medical attention, one staff member was injured but didn't require serious attention.

The prison remains on lockdown while the investigation continues.
