Either they really know what they're doing or they are really stupid.

Authorities at the Pacific Bonsai Museum are reporting somebody broke in early Monday, and stole a 60-year-old tree.

The tree, measuring just 16 inches tall, was taken around 4:40am.  Security officials were alerted by the museum's alarms, which were tripped at that time.

Police found the pot for the plant abandoned behind the building,  museum officials say without bonsai expertise or plant knowledge, it will only last about a day - and then will die.

Bonsai trees are a type of juniper, this one was worth about $2,000 especially because of it's age.

Bonsai trees are of Japanese origin, and come in many varieties and colors. They are basically minature trees grown in small pots or trays, and the Pacific Museum has many valuable, old and exotic such trees on display.

Officials say it's possible the person might try to sell it to a grower or collector.
