Kennewick police are still investigating a fatal motorcycle accident on Mother's Day Sunday, but believe they know why it happened. (Pictured is intersection where wreck occurred.) (UPDATE BELOW)

Around 6:07pm, police say a Honda Shadow motorcycle ridden by a 66-year-old man was heading west on Canal Drive near Kent Street. The rider failed to make the curve in the road, and slid across into the eastbound lane, right in front of a car.

A 31-year-old woman from Kennewick driving a Nissan Sentra was not able to avoid him, and struck the rider head on. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The rider, who's name has not been released yet, was from Pasco.

The woman was not injured. According to police, the reason the cyclist failed to make the corner was because he was traveling too fast. The bike lost traction, and slide out directly in front of the car.

UPDATE- the name of the cyclist has been released, Russell S. Pogue of Pasco.
