What Should West Richland Change Its Name To?
At the last city council meeting the West Richland mayor and council discussed (again) the idea of changing the city's name. Officials say it's only a matter of time before it happens, but it could cost up to $80,000 and the city doesn't have that right now. What should they change the name to?
A decade ago some advocated the name "Red Mountain." Some in leadership would be OK with keeping "West" but want to distinguish themselves from Richland.
- The city was founded by people who didn't want to be part of Richland
- An early land developer tried to get a city named after himself: Heminger City
- A portion of West Richland used to be called Enterprise
- Some residents would like West Richland to be thought of as the "fourth" Tri-Cities since it now has 13,000 people.
This would not be accurate, but wouldn't it be funny if it was Richland and POORland? Stacy Lee thinks it'd be funny to name it East Benton City!!! Give it your best shot:
