The list is growing in Oregon of cities and towns that have voted to ban any and all marijuana related operations. Now, add Pilot Rock to the list.

Oregon's legal pot law differs from ours in Washington state in that the law itself allows cities and municipalities to ban marijuana under what's called a "local option."  If 55% of the population within the city limits opposes pot, then it can be banned. This includes growth, processing and sale.

Pilot Rock's city council voted Tuesday evening to unanimously pass an ordinance that goes into effect immediately banning all such operations. Pilot Rock now joins the cities of Athena, Weston, Stanfield, Umatilla and Ukiah (in Southern Oregon) who have also utilized this "local option."

The City reached it's decision after several public input sessions where citizens opinion polls were held, as well as two workshops involving city staff and counselors.
