We're not sure of the definition of the word "play" but this should be hilarious!

In the latest in a long series of goofy, off-the-cuff comedic appearances, legendary funnyman Will Ferrell will don a Mariner's uniform and actually take to the field Thursday, March 12 when Seattle takes on Oakland in Peoria, Arizona.

It's part of a new special called Funny or Die, being filmed for HBO Films, and will be aired later in the year.   Ferrell says it's a lifelong dream to set foot on a Major League field, and Thursday is his chance.

According to the Mariners,  Ferrell's appearance is mostly for a great cause:

"Ferrell’s goal is to honor “Campy” Campaneris while also helping organizations dedicated to fighting cancer, including Cancer for College.  Formed in 1993, Cancer for College is a charity that helps individuals adversely affected by cancer to realize their dream of a college education.

"An important part of the fund-raising efforts will be game-used memorabilia from Ferrell’s journey across the five ballparks to be auctioned online later in the year on MLB.com with proceeds being donated to Cancer for College as well as Stand Up To Cancer, a groundbreaking initiative created to accelerate innovative cancer research.  MLB is the founding donor of Stand Up To Cancer."

Game time is 12:05 at HoHoKam Stadium in Peoria.  Mariner talent scout officials said they had "never scouted a talent like Wil before..."
