A female, reading a book by the bank of the Columbia River was approached by a teen male and three other teen girls, and an argument ensued after the male teen splashed water on the woman. The woman and the unknown male teen became involved in an argument. That verbal confrontation escalated as the male allegedly assaulted the female by tackling her, dragging her in to the river and choking her to temporary unconsciousness underwater.

The victim told police she heard laughter from the girls at first then it turned to concern as they convinced the male to let the woman up for air.

The teens then fled and the woman got out of the water, dried  off and then went to the  police. She did not require medical attention. The three females are theonly witnesses at this time but that could change during the course of the investigation. Evidence was collected and the investigation is ongoing. KPD is seeking the suspect male and the three female witnesses to come forward. KPD is also reaching out for additional witnesses to this incident, as there were several people around at the time of assault. Although the victim and suspect were not known to each other, this does not appear to be a random event. Any tips about this incident can be called in to 509-628-0333 reference KPD #17-17791
