The state is close to approving an open mine in a valley 12 miles from Mt. St. Helens along the Green River. A petition is trying to stop it. What do you think?

A Canadian company purchased the rights to explore the area for copper, gold and molybdenum. If it goes forward, the company will be expected to keep the Green River clean, but fish populations and drinking water supplies could be threatened. Access to the river would also be affected.

It would create great jobs for southern Washington. Tax money will benefit roads, schools and emergency services to the remote communities that serve tourists and recreationists.
