The Cougars didn't waste any time after bouncing Paul Wulff from the Head Football coaching job at WSU before offering it to former Texas Tech Coach Mike Leach.

Leach is a proven winner, having won 83 games in ten season with the Red Raiders in Lubbock Texas.  Tech has had some good teams, but did not consistently become a winner until his tenure.  Under Leach, Tech led the nation in passing, scoring, and often posted outrageous numbers offensively. Tech also was competitive against the 'big 2', Texas and Oklahoma in the Big 12 Conference; Tech beat the Longhorns a couple of times under Leach.    He was fired after a controversial issue in which a player was alledgedly forced to sit in a shed during practice after suffering a concussion.  The circumstances of that incident were a "he said she said" situation, but Tech did not afford Leach any leeway, and quickly bounced him.    But Leach is a proven winner, and if he could win in a place like Lubbock, TX  then many believe he can win in Pullman.   He has, according to sources, verbally accepted the job, but has not signed a contract yet.
