Monday evening, traffic was snarled for hours after the crash near the Oregon - Idaho border.

Oregon State Patrol troopers report that around 4:50pm, a large semi-truck towing a 53 - foot long box trailer was Westbound on the Interstate when it failed to negotiate a corner and crashed into the median.  It then went over the embankment and struck the guardrail.

After it came to a rest, it was struck by two other vehicles that were unable to stop in time to avoid the wreck.   The drivers and passengers on those vehicles were taken to a hospital in Baker City for examination, but no serious injuries reported.

However, the truck driver, identified as 62-year-old David W. Herring of Yakima, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

As of last report there was still some blockage of the freeway due to removal of the vehicle.
