Wednesday afternoon, a Yakima Police negotiator and Yakima County Sheriff's were able to talk a man down who had climbed onto the Selah Creek Bridge on I-82, and was ready to jump.

The Selah Creek, or Fred Redmond Bridge is one of the tallest in our area, you pass over it whenever you go to Seattle. The 61-year-old man, whose name was not released, was ready to plunge off the steepest part, which is 325 feet down.

But the negotiator and officers were able to convince the man to come away from the bridge after talking to him for about 20 minutes, shortly after 11am Wednesday. He was voluntarily taken to a nearby hospital for an evaluation.

The bridge, which opened in 1971, is featured on a number of websites as one of the tallest in the Western U.S.
