Fortunately, five children sleeping upstairs in the home were not injured.

Yakima officials now say the cause of the basement fire in the 300 block of East Maple Street just after midnight Tuesday morning was caused because the men were trying to use butane torches to manufacture marijuana oil.

A 38-year-old and 22-year-old man suffered severe burns, enough to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.  Police say they were using butane torches and acetone in an attempt to illegally manufacture marijuana oil. There was an explosion, which set the basement on fire.  Children were sleeping on the main floor area but got out of the home safely.

The men have not been arrested or charged yet due to the severity of their injuries. The investigation continues.
