Benton County Emergency Services and the American Red Cross have begun to assess the damage caused by the recent flooding of the Yakima River, and they are asking for your help.

Residents affected in any way by the flooding need to report their situation to BCES as soon as possible.  BCES has set up information on their website where citizens can report whatever effects suffered by the flood last week. The Yakima crested just over 2 1/2 feet over flood stage, and while that was lower than the 3 1/2 feet expected, widespread damage did still occur.  The assesment process began Monday May 23rd, as the water levels of the Yakima finally began to subside.  As of Monday, the river was back 2 feet below flood stage, but still in what is called the "active" stage, where it is flowing above normal levels for this time of year.
