20-Year-Old Woman Gunned Down in Kennewick Early Sunday Morning
Kennewick police are saying the fatal 4am shooting near 7th and Gum is not a random act of violence.
Around 4:10am Sunday morning, the incident began with 911 calls about gunfire in the area. Police quickly responded and found a young woman who had been shot and was lying in the street. Police said she was "left to die."
The woman has now been identified as 20-year-old Andrea Nunez. Authorities say EMS crews were unable to save her, but police did not specify how many times she was shot or what part of her body was hit. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Nunez was also sought by police in January for escaping custody.
After many reports and initial investigation, police are studying surveillance footage from nearby that shows two men running from the area shortly after the shots were fired. One has been arrested, and the other, Ezekial Sanchez, is on the run.
The SWAT Team also checked an apartment at a complex near the shooting area. It was said someone connected to the incident was there, but it was cleared and no one was found. Police say a man was with the woman in the road at the time of the shooting; he was the person who called 911 and is fully cooperating.
Numerous shell casings were found in the street. Police have determined it was gang related.
More information is expected as the investigation continues.
