A 28 year old Yakima man died on Christmas after shooting at police multiple times and being shot by police.

Yakima police responded to a report that a drunk man claimed he shot people with a gun in the 300 block of West Pierce Street, according to news reports.

When they arrived they found the 28-year-old man with a gun pointed to his own head.

Police also got reports of two other people in the house but did not know if they were injured or not.

Officers were waiting for assistance when the man started firing at them from inside the home. Yakima and Benton counties' SWAT teams arrived and tried to negotiate with the man for more than five hours.

Around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, the man starting firing shots at the officers a second time and was killed by return fire from a SWAT member.

The officer was put on routine administrative leave and the two people inside the house were questioned and released unharmed.
