Abandoned Flaming Car Also Burns 40 Acres, Was It Stolen?
Very unusual that this car fire was discovered during daylight hours.
Benton County Deputies are investigating this report of a vehicle fire, they were called to the area near the intersection of SR 221 and Cemetary Road about this one. The location is about six miles Southeast of Prosser, in a very open and rural area.
Upon arrival this car was completely engulfed, and the blaze spread to the surrounding area, burning about 40 acres of grassland. No word if the vehicle was stolen, no word if anyone inside. Fire units were able to suppress the blaze before it spread any further.
This kind of thing was becoming common in North Franklin County last year, but has kind of died down. The usual MO was a vehicle would be reported stolen, then a day or two later found abandoned and on fire in the middle of the night in some rural area.
This time, the fire was reported just after 9am Saturday morning. Anyone with any information is urged to call (509)-628-0333. All leads can be confidential.
