If you've ever been to the Oregon Zoo in Portland, you have visited Packy! He's the beautiful Asian elephant born in 1962 who spent his whole life at the zoo to the delight of visitors from all around the world. Sadly, Packy had to be put down due to his losing battle with tuberculosis. At 54, he contracted TB which the vets were helping him fight, but the treatments were unsuccessful and he had to be euthanized.

Packy was the first Asian elephant to be born in captivity, the oldest of his species in North America, and one of the oldest in the world. Packy had 7 children, and stood at 10 feet tall. He was loved by zoo staff and pretty much everyone who met him. His loss is one that will be felt by so many. RIP Packy.
