Charges Elevated for Grant County Man Who Fatally Shot Victim 17 Times
A surveillance video shows a Grant County murder suspect shooting a man 17 times after an altercation reportedly over property lines. The charges were elevated this week.
According to County investigators, Juan Miguel Silva Murillo is now facing First Degree Murder charges following the fatal shooting August 19th.
Grant County officials say Silva was seen on a video feed climbing over a fence onto property belonging to Antonio Quiterio Magallon, and then he is seen firing a gun while running towards Magallon. Magallon was spraying weeds on the pasture property.
The video then shows Silva standing over Magallon repeatedly firing his weapon, stopping to reload at least two or three times. All told, 17 shots were discharged. Silva is then seen walking away.
Family members identified Silva from the surveillance tape, and say the dispute apparently stemmed from a property dispute between the two also involving cattle as well.
Silva remains in the Grant County jail on $5 million dollars bail, and now the charges have been elevated to First Degree Murder.
More information expected to be released by the Grant County Prosecutor's office.
