Columbia Park Fire Likely Started by Transients, Say Cops
The investigation continues, but Kennewick police now say a brush fire not far from the Edison Street entrance to Columbia Park (fairly close to the old Kiwanis builiding) was likely from what they're calling a transient camp. The fire was first reported Tuesday afternoon.
Officials say evidence found leads them to believe someone (or persons) had setup a makeshift camp and shelter, and left a fire unattended, or not completely put out.
The fire was extinguished before it had a chance to spread, but did consume a decent amount of brush and undergrowth.
Police are asking the public to report any suspicious or dangerous activity (such as burning) seen in the park (or elsewhere).
