A brief but bizarre chase in Benton County on Monday

Would-be burglar tries to break in...then what?

Mid-morning a landowner was working in their field on South Finley Road, when they saw a man attempting to break into their home. The homeowner confronted the suspect, at which time the man fled in the truck pictured in our story.

Armed with a description of the truck, Benton County Deputies quickly located the suspect, but he refused to pull over.  He led Deputies on a slow, "OJ Simpson-style" chase, several times he stopped and got out, taunting the officers to "shoot him."  They didn't.

Finally, the truck was successfully stopped near Sloan Road and State Route 397, nearly four miles from where the original incident occurred.

The driver was apprehended without any further incident.
